Self Defense Through Mental PreparednessMental Preparedness Exercises
WHAT WOULD YOU DO IN THESE SITUATIONS? Situation One You are driving home alone at night and suddenly you are pulled over by an unmarked police car. The man approaches you and asks for your driver's license and proof of insurance. He walks back to his car. You wait awhile. He then returns to your car and advises you that your registration had expired and asks you to accompany him to his car... What would you do? Situation Two You are shopping at a mall, as you return to your car, a man appears and asks you if this is your car. Startled, you reply, "yes". He then points to a puddle of oil under the front of the car and tells you that you have lost some oil and that it could be a more serious problem. He says that he may be able to help and asks you to sit in the driver's seat and open the hood. He instructs you to start the engine when he tells you to... What would you do? Situation Three You are 15 years old and home alone one Saturday afternoon. Your parents and older brother have gone out for the day. Later in the day a man knocks at your door. He seems sincere and claims that there has been a terrible accident down the road and asks that you let him in to use the phone to call for an ambulance... What would you do? Situation Four You are driving home after a late shift at the hospital where you work. As you drive to an intersection and stop for the stop sign, the car ahead bumps into the rear of your car. You are in a residential neighborhood, but because of the time, it is fairly secluded. You begin to wonder if there is any damage to your car... What would you do? Situation Five You and a girlfriend meet some boys from your college. They invite you both back to their place for a house party, and you agree to go along. Once at their house, everything seems quiet. The boys tell you that the party will not really start for another hour or two. They invite you in to hang out with their other male roommates... What would you do? All of these scenarios are typical examples of how assaults begin All of these situations are listed to get you on the way to thinking with a winning mindset. I am often asked, "What is the difference between preparedness and paranoia?" The answer is, "Preparedness is paranoia tested and you have won through your mental preparation." |
